Was great to see Keanu Reeves & Alex Winter sharing the screen again. The film did bring back some good memories. I just felt it was rushed and not very funny. Wish they could of CG'd Rufus (George Carlin) into the film a little more. He had a brief muffled 5 second scene, and it totally sucked. Death (William Sadler) was awesome once again. He nails that roll. They should do a spin off on his character. What was up with Ted's wardrobe? Pink button up and blue jeans? Come on. I could go on and on. To sum it up the movie wasn't terrible, but it wasn't any good either. Would I watch it again? Doubt it. Recommend it? Definitely not. 5 stars from me and one thumb down 👎. I watched Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey in preparation for Face The Music and where have those films been all my life. Excellent Adventure is the better film, but Bogus Journey is the more enjoyable one.
I like most people had worried about Keanu and Alex returning to these characters after so long, but for the most part, they were great. Keanu was definitely the weaker of the two, but I don't feel the need the hate that. They have to unite the world through all space in time with a song they were told they wrote at some point, they have to visit future versions of themselves to find the right one. Their adventure didn't make me laugh as much as I would've liked, but at least it is serving a purpose for the sake of story or character development.
Finding out that the princesses might leave them, or even discovering that if they continue on the same path, they will resort to criminal acts to change their lives for the better, and eventually end up in prison. They visit themselves in the future, near death, age 90 or more and it was actually a heartfelt scene of self reflection, even if I didn't really know what it all meant. They are given a flash drive with the song on it titled "Face the Music. on the other side it is marked, Preston/Logan. MP46.
If it wasn't for the daughters of Bill & Ted, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed the movie as much as I did. Not that I wouldn't have enjoyed the film otherwise. Some people are not gonna like Billie's character being a caricature of Ted. Okay, two things: Why is that such a bad thing? and two: They're not just doing an impression of Ted. Brigette who was honestly the best part of the movie for me, was doing that, fine, but also making it their own. Samara Weaving was great, but Brigette Lundy-Paine stood out more in the best possible way. they're drumming up a band (pun intended) to help their dads united the world. Which they succeed to do until they are killed by a robot named Dennis from the future, who I didn't like at first, but with each re-watch loved more.
In Hell, Bill & Ted reunite with their families, make amends with Death, and go back to the land of the living to perform the song. I actually really like the song, and everything worked out well for everyone.
I expected the dads to pass the legacy to their kids, but it's not that I expected it to happen that would be the point, but the message behind it. 1: the message about our kids being the future. That is said often. 2: Influence. The past influences the present which in turn influences the future. Jimi Hendrix being influenced by Louis Armstrong influenced by Mozart and so on. Billie and Thea being influenced by their dads. Bill & Ted seeing that their actions influences the future. It's Billie and Thea's turn now, and I honestly wouldn't mind a spinoff movie with them if we ever got it. I doubt it though.
For Bill & Ted, looking towards the future is more important than living in the past. As for issues with this movie, I already said the movie is not as funny as I would've liked and the princesses didn't have much of anything to do, but lets be honest, they didn't have much of anything to do in the first two movies either. Also, this movie didn't explore much the relationship between mother/daughter between The princesses and Billie & Thea, as opposed to Father/Daughter which was well established.
